Ballet Folklorico San Fernando
Ballet Folklorico San Fernando has recently become part of the Cultural Awareness curriculum involved in AbunDANZA!’s Dance Program. This program is based out of Branford Park and has expanded with a branch into John H. Francis Polytechnic High School's Escandalo Dance Club.
As part of the Ballet Folklorico San Fernando curriculum students learn about Mexican customs and traditions tied to lessons about traditional Mexican music, geography, and history. At the end of every dance season, students know that they are dancing much more than just a few songs. They are able to interpret the stories in the songs and feel the emotions of their characters because they have a better understanding of where they are coming from, both literally and figuratively. They are telling the story of their Mexican ancestors and continuing that story through their own creativity and choreography.
